It’s snowing.  A lot.  Like a lot a lot.  And after a fantastic (insert sarcasm) walk from class through the blizzardy snow, all I feel like doing is sitting in my bed drinking iced coffee and making printables.  I made a weekly planning printable in two of my favorite colors, scarlet red and periwinkle blue.  Click on the preview or the link below to download!  Enjoy!

Happy New Year!  To ring in the new year, I’m sharing my organization system for college.  It’s no secret that I like organizing.  A lot.  And organizing my school stuff saves me so much time each day because I don’t waste time searching for things I need.  Here is the system I use.

Planner

I love my Lilly Pulitzer agenda.  I received several packages of stickers for Christmas (thanks mom and dad!) and they’re so helpful.  I love that they come with fun stickers too, like “me day” and “mani-pedi”.  It’s just as important to schedule fun stuff as it is to schedule time to study!

Notebooks

I use a small notebook to take notes and make study guides for each class.  These notebooks are from the Greenroom line at Target, and I love them.  I carry the notebooks I need in my tote bag to each class. These notebooks don’t take up much space, and they’re so cute!

I labeled each notebook with stickers that I found at the Target dollar section.

Folder

I use one folder for all current handouts, and I bring the folder with me to every class.  When I’m studying for a test, I use binder clips to attach all the handouts for the class together.  When the test is over, the packet of handouts goes into my binder.

Binder

I keep a binder for each year.  Once a test is over, I put the handouts from before the test into my binder.  Before finals, I go through all the handouts and throw away the ones I don’t need.  I put the handouts that I do need into sheet protectors, and use the binder to study.  This way, I have the handouts organized so I can refer back to them for later classes.

How do you stay organized for school/work?

Hi everyone,

As much as I wanted to title this post “Welcome to my crib, wanna come in?” I refrained.  Because this is a sophisticated blog. 😉

I finally moved into my room in college!  I’m living in my sorority house again, and I’m thrilled to finally have a single room to decorate however I want.  I wanted it to be homey, pretty, and relaxing.  More like a bedroom than a dorm room.  It’s full of floral, chevron, and scalloped details.  And pillows.  Because you can never have enough pillows.

Dresser/vanity and bed – I made the felt flowers using felt, cardboard for the back, and super-strong glue.  I made the scalloped garland using a circular hole punch and yarn.  I simply punch circles into white paper, folded each circle over the yarn, and taped the sides of the circles using double-sided tape.  You can also see my makeup organization system in this photo.

Windowsill – Click here to see how I made the chevron picture frame.

Desk area – Check out this post to see how I made the C canvas.  You can see my stack of to-do lists next to my computer in this photo!

End of my bed – I painted the sorority letters using acrylic paint and covered them with Mod Podge.  To make the omega, I just flipped a “U” upside down!  I made the paint chip canvas using an old canvas from an art sale and paint chips from the hardware store.  I lined the front of the plastic drawers with scrapbook paper, and again, click here to see how I made the whale canvas.

I feel like I’ve been MIA from the blog world for so long… what has everybody been up to?

Here are some of my school supply must-haves!  Can you tell I’m really excited for school supply shopping?

A Planner // This is pretty self-explanatory.  As I’ve said before: If it’s not in my planner, it’s not happening.  I use mine to keep me on top of deadlines, assignments, and events.

Note-Taking Supplies // Find a system that works for you, and stick to it.  I write slowly, so I type my notes during class to ensure that I get everything down.  After class, I transcribe the typed notes onto white unlined paper using my pens and flare pens.  I really don’t like lined paper: it’s so thin and flimsy. The colored pens are great for making headers and diagrams.

Reading Supplies // Again, you need a system.  I try to do my reading assignments before class.  I highlight my books, and use page flags to mark important pages or assignments.  I don’t annotate or take notes on textbook material unless I absolutely have to.  For me, it’s usually a waste of time.  When I’m studying for the test, I go back and re-read highlighted parts of the book.

Organization Supplies // It’s no use to be organized during the school year if you store everything in a big, messy pile after classes end.  I use a small 3-ring binder with tabs for each class.  It’s easy to carry around in my backpack or tote.  When a class ends, I save the important papers (essays, tests, study guides) and put them in sheet protectors in a large binder.  I only keep the papers that I think I will need later.

I absolutely love lists.  They keep me focused and on track, and help make daunting tasks a seem more manageable.  This is what I [try to] do every day on this blog.  Obviously nobody’s perfect and sometimes I’m just too busy or tired to do everything, but this is a good guide to follow to keep yourself accountable.

Is there anything I missed?  What is on your daily blog to-do list?

If you’ve been reading this blog for oh, five minutes, then you know I love planning and organizing.  I keep a Google Calendar just for for events and meetings and a paper agenda for everything.  I have a terrible memory, so I need all the help I can get!  If it’s not in my planner, it’s not going to happen.

I’ve been waiting for the new Lilly Pulitzer agendas for a long time.  So today I finally treated myself to one!  And I’m in love.  It’s so pretty, neat, and just perfect.  Check it out!

It took me a while to decide, but I eventually chose the Resort White Chiquita Bonita print large agenda.  So colorful!

The agenda has tabs for each month, plus stickers!

Monthly cover page — each month has a theme!  The theme for May is the Kentucky Derby, and it’s too cute!

Monthly calendars at the front of the agenda, plus another calendar at the front of each month!

Daily pages… I need plenty of room to write for each day, so this planner is perfect for me!

This post was not sponsored by anyone.  All opinions are my own, and I bought the agenda with my own (babysitting) money.  That being said, I like to share things I find with YOU, so to get your own agenda, click here!

Do you use an agenda?

Make It: Chevron Cork Boards

When I saw these cork boards on sale at Target, I immediately knew how I would use them.  I painted a chevron pattern with acrylic paint onto each board, and then outlined the design using a black permanent marker.  I made one in light grey, dark grey, cream, and yellow to match my room decor.

This is my third chevron project, but I can’t help that I’m obsessed with chevron!

I’m going to use these boards (along with my gemstone pushpins) to hang papers, memos, etc. when I get back to campus.  Hopefully these will help me keep track of odds and ends!

Ever since I was little, I have loved planning events.  I used to plan my birthday parties months in advance in elementary school, and I would get angry when my party guests didn’t appreciate my party theme as much as I wanted them to!  Now, I get to plan events it on a larger scale as part of some of my campus activities.  But as anyone who has ever planned anything can tell you, event-planning takes a lot of organization.  Like, a lot.  And even though I love organizing, I haven’t yet mastered event-planning organization.

I like Google docs, Excel spreadsheets, and other web-based organizing tools, but I always need to write everything down so I have it when I’m not on my laptop.  Though I’ve tried many organizational materials, I feel that there is a huge need for basic monthly event planning sheets.  Nothing fancy, nothing specific, just sheets with plenty of space to write but enough structure to seem productive.  So instead of continuing to search for the perfect event planning printable, I made my own in MS Word.  They’re cute and perfect and customizable and I want to make them for every event I ever plan ever.  I printed them double-sided to save some trees, and put them into a 3-ring binder.

There is one sheet for each month leading up to your event.  I made sheets for all 12 months, and you can print just the ones you need.  You could even use these as personal, monthly planning sheets.

As well as a sheet for organizing your budget and reimbursements.  I get reimbursed for money I spend on items for events, so it’s important to keep track of everything!

What are you waiting for?  Download the printables for free and start planning your next big event… or just your life!

Makeup Organization

I like being able to see all my makeup when I put it on in the morning.  My old organization system didn’t have enough space, so I needed a new way to have everything at my fingertips.  I got some metal buckets and white chipboard boxes from Target for $1 each at the Dollar Spot.  They hold all my makeup, and the entire thing only cost $5.  I love that it’s easy to add more buckets or bins to if I need more storage.

How do you store your makeup?

It has been a long time since I wrote a Marvelous Monday post, but I figured I would do it today!

MiMM

Marvelous… Giant yogurts from Red Mango.  This one is plain yogurt with raspberries and brownies.  Red Mango yogurt is soooo yummy!  I just wish the location near me was self-serve.  Then again… that might be bad because I would go to Red Mango way more often, and spend all my money on it.

Marvelous… Putting things into sheet protectors.  It’s so satisfying to know that your notes will be neatly preserved forever.  Or is that just something that only I enjoy?

Marvelous… Diet Coke!  I like think Diet Coke tastes best from a can.  And yes, there is a difference between Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi.  One is good and one is bad.

This post is short because I’m trying struggling to study for my Learning Disabilities final tomorrow. Which makes today a not-so-marvelous Monday.  There are so many lists I have to memorize – wish me luck!

What is marvelous about YOUR Monday?
